The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists has over 2900 individual members and about 73 supporting corporate members. There are three regional chapters in addition to the Lagos Headquarters. These are Port Harcourt, Benin and Warri chapters. Each chapter is headed by a Chapter Chairman who is a member of the Executive Committee of NAPE.

 
Membership of this Association consist of the following classifications:

a. Active Member.
b. Junior Member.
c. Student Member.
d. Associate Member.
e. Corporate Member

 
ACTIVE MEMBER
Any person engaged in the practice or teaching of the geoscience or petroleum related science may apply for active membership provided he holds at least a Bachelor's Degree from an Educational Institution of acceptable academic standards. This is in addition to three years of working experience in the practice or teaching of geoscience or petroleum related science.
 
JUNIOR MEMBER
Any graduate with a major in any of the geoscience or petroleum related science may apply for junior membership of the Association.
 
STUDENT MEMBER
Any undergraduate of geoscience or petroleum related science may apply for student membership.
 

ASSOCIATE MEMBER
Any person not qualified for any other class of membership who is a graduate of an educational institution of acceptable academic standard with major studies related to, or generally associated with geosciences or petroleum related science may apply as an Associate member. The Executive Committee may waive degree requirements for this class of membership at its discretion based on the outline of the Constitution.

 
CORPORATE MEMBER
Any Company or institution registered in Nigeria and engaged in the practice or teaching Oil, Gas and Energy, Mineral, Exploration and Production activities either as an operator, shareholder or service company, training or financial institution may apply for corporate membership.

At the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held at the Ladi Kwali Conference Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Abuja on November 14th, 2004, the house reviewed upward the annual membership due as follows:

Please bear this in mind before the current bills are sent to you.
 
For new membership applicants, please fill forms properly and include a functional e-mail address. The e-mail address will be used to inform you of your application status in due course of time. To ensure healthy and continuous communication old members are also encourage to inform the Secretariat whenever there is a change of address and e-mail address etc.

All complaints received since September 2004 are currently receiving attention, please bear with us. If you do not receive any e-mail from us on this, please get across to the Secretariat via e-mail. Fresh complaints are welcomed; all membership complaints should attention "Membership Committee".

The Membership Committee is currently working on a more efficient and fast means of getting your membership bills across to you.

For a student application, it is important that at least one of the endorsers should be a lecturer from the student's campus.

CHANGE OF STATUS

After graduation, student members are expected to change membership status to a Junior Member, after three year work experience, a Junior Member change membership status to an Active Member. The procedures for change of status is as shown below:

  1. A new form is obtained free and completed appropriately.
  2. Duely completed form will be returned to the Secretariat with all pending arrears of membership dues.
  3. N1,000.00 for change of status (for members within Nigeria), $10.00 plus all outstanding dues (for foreign members).

NAPE FOUNDATION

The NAPE foundation is a funding mechanism meant to sustain current activities, make room for new ones and also allow for the implementation of other objectives on a continuous basis. The NAPE Foundation levy is N2,000.00 for all ACTIVE and ASSOCIATE Members

MODE OF MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Every would be member shall obtain and submit a formal application form authorized by the Executive Committee, signed by him/her and endorsed by two registered Active Member of NAPE. Completed application forms would be returned to NAPE Secretariat or sent to NAPE via certified Bank Drafts only. A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae and copies of Certificates should be included for Active, Junior and Associate membership, a clear photocopy of Student Identity Card should be enclosed for student membership application.

For corporate members, the form should be returned with the following:

  1. Fully stated fees.
  2. A copy of the company's Department of Petroleum Resources (D.P.R.) permit to conduct business.
  3. A copy of the company profile, detailing list of key executives, business endeavour, specialization area, past and current jobs (in case of service companies)

In the accreditation of forms and final endorsement by the Association's Assistant Secretary, a registration number and a certificate would be issued which authenticates one as a member.

NAPE offers its membership quality Continuing Education on its main subject matter of Petroleum Exploration. Various meetings (Annual International Conference and Exhibitions, Technical Meetings, Workshops and Seminars) ensure necessary social and technical interaction among members.

The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists is affiliated to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the worlds largest Geocscience Association.
