The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) successfully concluded its September Technical/Business Meeting held on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, at Iris Hall, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, with virtual participation.
The meeting themed “Leveraging Integrated Subsurface Evaluation and Real-Time Drilling Intelligence to Maximize Reservoir Value and Optimize Well Delivery: A Case Study of Utor-40 Well Drilling, Utorogu Field, OML-34,” brought together NAPE members, industry professionals, stakeholders, geosciencetists, and students.
The meeting recorded a total participation of 296 attendees, comprising 181 physical attendees and 115 online participants, reflecting broad engagement from NAPE members, fellows, associates, corporate participants, students, and non-members.
The technical session featured presentations by Dr. Christopher Asuquo Jackson, Head of Geoscience (AMT), ND Western, and Francis Effiong, Well Engineer, ND Western, and was chaired by Mr. Fatai Folorunso Kareem, FNAPE.
Dr. Christopher Asuquo Jackson presented an overview of the Utorogu Field, including OML-34, field development, the identification and development of 84 reservoirs, the Field Development Plan (FDP), well correlation, RMS amplitude mapping, and post-drilling review. His presentation provided insights into the integrated subsurface evaluation processes supporting reservoir understanding and field development decisions.
Francis Effiong focused on real-time drilling intelligence and its application to reservoir value optimisation, highlighting the model, potential challenges, and the planned versus actual completion status of the Utor-40 well. His presentation demonstrated the importance of integrating drilling intelligence with subsurface understanding to improve well delivery and operational decision-making.
The presentations were followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, providing participants with an opportunity to seek further clarification and engage the speakers on the technical and operational issues discussed.
A special highlight of the meeting was the recognition and celebration of two distinguished NAPE Fellows aged 80 and above. The Association and members of the audience honoured Dr. Daniel Lambert-Aikhionbare, FNAPE, former President of NAPE (1991–1992), at 82, and Prof. Michael Oti, FNAPE, at 80, in recognition of their contributions to the Association, geoscience, and the petroleum industry.
